Is Data Driven Society Leading The World?

Over the years, data has been claimed to be the new oil, new gold, new currency, new soil and what not. Experts state that 90 percent of the data in the world was generated over the last two years alone. I know, that’s a spellbinding number. The never-ending generation of data has made ‘Bigdata’ a buzzword. But, does it still make sense to call Bigdata a buzzword?

Recent reports state that about 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are generated every day. With this pace, we can imagine that it’s almost impossible for the number to decrease but only increase with time. The hype Bigdata has might end only when one stops using the technology forever. But, would that happen? Some might claim that it’s going away but I politefully disagree, after all it’s the future.

The ever-evolving big data industry has popularized data science which did not become an established term until recently. With billions of data being generated in a fraction of second, one might wonder how are they collected, organized and used to benefit any organization?

Well, that’s where data science comes into the picture.

According to the stats, data scientist which is indeed claimed to be the “Sexiest Job of the 21st Century” has 4,100 job openings with an average salary of $110,000 in the US. The term data scientist which was hardly been recognized over the past thirty years has now become the second highest paid job in the US. It’s intriguing, isn’t it?
Data being considered as an important asset, securing them from an intruder is given higher priority in any organization which when corrupted may lead to financial losses. The constantly evolving nature of data security risks has become one of the problematic factors of cyber security.

Even though cyber security jobs failed to come under the top 10 in the US, the market is expected to increase over 81 billion dollars in 4 years which is the consequence of constant data generation. If anything, the market would only increase with time.
Therefore, whichever industry you work in, you will have to come across a story about how “data” is changing the world.

So, here the Tech Infinite arises the question :

Are we living in a data driven world?
